1. La fontaine de la Concorde : La fontaine des Mers et la fontaine des Fleuves (3322 avis)
Les deux fontaines sont présentes de part et d’autre de l’obélisque de la Concorde. Elles célèbrent la navigation fluviale et maritime.
La fontaine fluviale est composée de figures assises représentant le Rhin et le Rhône, des produits des régions arrosées (raisins, blé, fruits, fleurs), des statues de la Navigation fluviale, l’Agriculture et l’Industrie.
La fontaine maritime comporte six figures colossales représentant l’Océan, la Méditerranée, la pêche des poissons, celle des coraux et celle des perles et coquillages.
Des cygnes se mêlent à trois génies symbolisant la Navigation maritime, le Commerce et l’Astronomie.
2. La fontaine Saint-Michel (517 avis)
La fontaine Saint-Michel a été construite suite à la percée du boulevard Saint-Michel par le baron Haussmann.
Cette fontaine est dédiée à Saint-Michel, prince de la milice céleste (l’armée crée par Dieu) afin de rappeler le souvenir de la chapelle Saint-Michel.
Cette fontaine représente la lutte du Bien contre le Mal, avec au centre l’archange Saint-Michel se battant contre le diable entouré de chimères ailées.
3. La fontaine Stravinski (216 avis)
La fontaine Stravinsky a été édifiée en 1983.
Ce monument évoque l’œuvre musicale d’Igor Stravinsky. Compositeur russe du XXe siècle.
La fontaine Stravinsky est composée de seize sculptures rendant hommage aux compositions du musicien, parfois directement comme L’Oiseau de feu, qui est une réduction du gigantesque Sun God.
Parfois les éléments font seulement allusion à Igor Stravinsky comme La Sirène, La Vie , L’Amour, Le Serpent, La Mort.
Les sculptures ont été réalisées en résine ou par assemblage d’éléments en résine et d’éléments métalliques ou assemblages d’éléments métalliques.
Les sculptures sont toutes mécanisées, noires ou colorées et sont animées par des jets d’eau.
4. La fontaine de Médicis (192 avis)
La Fontaine de Médicis est la plus somptueuse fontaine du jardin du Luxembourg, elle est commandée par Marie de Médicis vers 1630. Elle portait à l’origine le nom de « grotte du Luxembourg ».
Elle connait plusieurs transformations, la principale consistant à la déplacer de 30 mètres au XIXe siècle en raison des travaux du baron Haussmann.
Elle représente le cyclope, Polyphème, fou amoureux de Galatée, une belle nymphe marine. Polyphème lui offre chaque jour de nombreux présents comme un ours, un éléphant. La nymphe n’est pas séduite par les proportions gigantesques du cyclope, ni par ses cadeaux.
Elle préfère le berger Acis.
La scène sur la Fontaine de Médicis, répresente Polyphème qui découvre sa bien-aimée avec le berger. Après avoir découvert cette trahison, il écrase Acis avec un rocher.
5. La fontaine Saint-Sulpice (134 avis)
Cette fontaine a été construite de 1844 à 1847, elle est classée Monument Historique en 1926. Elle est constituée de 3 bassins qui s’empilent du plus grand au plus petit.
Sur les points cardinaux se trouvent 4 Evêques (Bossuet, Fénelon, Fléchier et Massillon) d’où les noms que l’on donne à cette fontaine : « Fontaine des Quatre Évêques », « Fontaine des Orateurs Sacrés » et « Fontaine des Quatre-Points-Cardinaux ».
6. La fontaine des Innocents (126 avis)
La fontaine des innocent est construite en 1550 pour le roi Henri IV, elle est décorée de scène et décors mythologiques.
Des prêtres ont annoncé à Hérode 1er la naissance du roi des juif, Jésus de Nazareth, afin d’éliminer ce rival, il organise le massacre des nouveaux nés de Bethléem, qu’on nommera les Innocents. Cette fontaine rend hommage à ses innocents.
A l’époque, cette fontaine se trouvait à côté de l’église des Saint-Innocents (aujourd’hui disparu). Le cimetière adossé à cette église comportait une division dédiée aux enfants décédés très jeunes qu’on appelle aussi les innocents.
7. La fontaine des Quatre-Parties-du-Monde (40 avis)
La Fontaine Carpeaux (La fontaine des Quatre-Parties-du-Monde) est une fontaine en bronze réalisée entre 1867 et 1874, elle est le fruit de la collaboration entre plusieurs artistes.
Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux a réalisé le groupe des « Quatre parties du monde », 4 femmes provenant chacune d’un des 4 continents représentés (Europe, Afrique, Asie et Amérique) soutenant le globe orné des signes du zodiaque.
On remarque que l’Océanie n’est pas présente car pendant le XIXe siècle elle n’était pas encore totalement découverte. A noter que l’Afrique est attachée à sa cheville par une chaine, symbole de l’esclavage, le pied de l’Amérique repose sur cette chaine.
8. La fontaine molière (39 avis)
En 1838, une fontaine avec des nymphes devait être construite en face de la maison où Molière est décédé.
Un membre de la Comédie-Française demande au préfet de la Seine d’édifier à la place un monument dédié à Molière qui sera financé par une souscription nationale.
Cette demande fut acceptée. C’est la première fois qu’une souscription nationale est faîte pour un monument à la gloire d’une personnalité.
Cette fontaine représente molière assis, en tenue de travail avec sa plume. Les deux femmes en contrebas tiennent chacune dans leur mains, un manuscrit où est écrit les chef-d’oeuvres de Molières
9. La fontaine du palmier (19 avis)
Napoléon Bonaparte décida en 1806 la création de quinze fontaines destinées à améliorer l’approvisionnement en eau des Parisiens. François-Jean Bralle construit La fontaine du Palmier (ou fontaine de la Victoire) en 1808.
Elle tient son nom, à la présence de feuilles de palmiers à son sommet, elle commémore les victoires de l’Empire notamment celles d’Italie et d’Egypte.
Au sommet de la fontaine se trouve une statue représentant la Victoire, elle tient des lauriers à la main.
Quatre allégories : Prudence, Justice, Force et Vigilance se trouvent à la base de cet édifice.
Cette fontaine a été déplacée en 1858, un bassin gardé par quatre sphinx sera ajouté.
10. Fontaine du fellah (11 avis)
En 1798, Napoléon Bonaparte entreprend une campagne militaire au Moyen-Orient et en l’Égypte afin de bloquer la route des Indes à l’Angleterre. Suite à cette campagne le style égyptien est à la mode en France.
Cette fontaine présente Antinoüs, le favori de l’empereur Romain Hadrien (76 – 138).
11. La fontaine Louvois (7 avis)
La fontaine Louvois est un monument parisien réalisé en 1844 par Louis Visconti à la demande du roi Louis-Philippe sur le square Louvois. Ce square occupe la place d’un ancien opéra, l’Opéra de la rue de Richelieu, construit en 1792 et démoli en 1820.
Dès le XIIXème siècle, face la croissance démographique, Paris construit de nombreux aqueducs et fontaines afin d’approvisionner en eau potable les parisiens.
Cette fontaine rend un hommage aux quatre grands cours d’eau français : la Seine, la Garonne, la Loire, et la Saône. Le socle inférieur du monument est décoré de quatre tritons chevauchant un dauphin.
Sur le pourtour de la grande vasque de marbre sont sculptés les douze signes du zodiaque en alternances avec des mascarons crachant de l’eau.
12. La fontaine Eugène Delacroix (7avis)
Cette fontaine est érigée pour rendre hommage au peintre Eugène Delacroix ( 1798 – 1863).
Une souscriptions des amis du peintre permet sa construction en 1890.
Au centre de cette fontaine se trouve le buste d’Eugène Delacroix, son visage est marqué par la maladie et fatigue de ses dernière années sur terre.
Son buste est accompagné de trois figures allégoriques en bronze évoquant la Gloire, les arts et le temps.
13. La fontaine de Cuvier (5 avis)
Cette fontaine rend hommage à Georges Cuvier (1769 – 1832), un anatomiste Français, promoteur de l’étude des fossiles du passés (paléontologie) et de la comparaison de l’anatomie entre espèce (anatomie comparée).
Sur cette fontaine se trouve une femme représentant l’allégorie de l’histoire naturelle, dans ses mains elle porte des tablettes où sont inscrites la devise de Cuvier “ Rerum cognoscere causas” pour signifier “Heureux celui qui a pu pénétrer les causes secrètes des choses”
14. La fontaine du Trocadéro (5 avis)
Cette fontaine est édifiée pour l’exposition universelle de 1937. C’est la plus importante fontaine de paris, elle dispose de vingt canons à eau, d’une porté de plus de cinquante mètres, pointant sur la tour Eiffel.
Elle est située à côté de la place de Varsovie où était construit le pavillon polonais pour cet événement.
En 1978, un monuments aux morts de la seconde guerre mondiale est construit sur cette place, pour rendre hommage aux combattants polonais morts pour la France.
15. La fontaine de Mars (5 avis)
Cette fontaine construite entre 1806 et 1808, est également nommée fontaine du Gros-Caillou, car son eau provenait de la pompe à feu du Gros-Caillou.
Cette pompe était composée de deux machines à vapeur qui élevaient l’eau de la Seine, cet eau alimentait les fontaines de la ville via des canaux.
Sur cette fontaine se trouve la déesse de la Santé, Hygie, donnant à boire au dieu de la Guerre, Mars.
Ces dieux sont présents, car cette fontaine est située à côté d’un hospice militaire.
16 La fontaine du Château d’eau, fontaine de Bondy, ou fontaine aux Lions de Nubie (5 avis)
Cette fontaine conçue en 1811, se trouvait initialement sur la place du Château d’Eau, aujourd’hui nommée la place de la République.
Elle a été déplacée suite aux grands travaux d’Haussmann, à l’emplacement du marché aux bétails de la Villette et servait essentiellement pour les animaux.
17. La fontaine des Polypores (3 avis)
Les polypores sont des champignons accrochées aux branches des arbres, ils ont la particularité d’avoir une forme de soucoupe.
Le créateur de cette fontaine, Jean-Yves Lechevallier, s’est inspiré de ces champignons pour réaliser cette fontaine inaugurée en 1983.
Dans le film “On connaît la chanson (1997), la première rencontre de Marc et Camille se déroule devant cette fontaine.
18. La fontaine du Château d’eau de Montmartre (1 avis)
Cette fontaine fait partie du premier château d’eau de Montmartre construit en 1835.
Ce lieu est une véritable prouesse technologique pour l’époque, car il permet d’amener l’eau en haut de la butte de Montmartre grâce à un système de pompe.
Ce réservoir devenu trop petit est remplacé en 1927 par le château d’eau du Mont Cenis.
